The central-eastern parish on the CG-2 up the Valira de l’Orient — Funicamp access to Grandvalira, and the road east to Port d’Envalira (2,408 m) and Pas de la Casa. This is the France-facing side of the country.
Who picks Encamp — and who should skip it
The mover who wants the east valley and the big ski domain: the Funicamp lift from the town, Grandvalira above it, and the France road starting in the parish.

Healthcare
Parish CAP, then west down the CG-2 to Meritxell in Escaldes-Engordany — the only hospital. France is geographically close (Pas de la Casa), but French hospitals are not your coverage: the referral runs through CASS agreements from Andorra, not across the nearest border on your own initiative.
Climate & ground feel
The high east valley. Port d’Envalira (2,408 m) is the country’s great road pass and can close in winter — the parish lives with that calendar. The town’s altitude from an official source is a GAP in this edition.
Getting around
CG-2 east to the Envalira pass/tunnel and Pas de la Casa (France); west to Escaldes (hospital) and the capital. The Funicamp gondola links the town to Grandvalira. No airport or railway in Andorra; on this side of the country, LEU (in Spain) and Toulouse are the relevant air gateways.
The people side
A working town under a ski domain: year-round residents, seasonal staff, and pass traffic. Catalan administration; commerce bilingual in practice. Schools: the three national public systems, with the same vaccination-certificate bar as everywhere in Andorra.
Watch-outs, honestly
Winter closure risk is a residency fact, not weather colour. If your France-side life (airports, appointments) matters in February, price the closed-pass days before you sign. And the single rent sample supports a slider, not a market claim.
Short story
Encamp’s Santa Eulàlia church and old town sit below the Funicamp; the parish has always faced France — the road over Envalira to Pas de la Casa made it the country’s eastern gate long before the ski domain stitched the valleys together.
