Canggu

Canggu — with Berawa beside it — is Bali’s surf-and-nomad shore: the youngest crowd in this dossier, the worst congestion, and one-bedroom villa samples starting where other places’ ranges end. The advisory prints no Bali wording; Canggu travels on the nationwide Level 2.

Canggu beach, Bali

Who picks Canggu

Surfers, remote workers on the E33G (foreign employer, US$60,000 a year), and high-budget villa households who want the beach-club strip and the coworking layer at full strength. Canggu is a premium product and it is priced like one — IDR 21,500,000 a month is the floor of the printed samples, and it prints without apology: plenty of movers prefer exactly this shore.

Who should skip it

Most full-timers over 65, and this page says so plainly: severe congestion on every road out, villa-rent escalation, no walkable centre, and hospital transfers that run through the gridlock. Also skip if your budget reads Bali’s other places as expensive — Canggu’s sample floor is roughly triple Denpasar’s, before the minimum-stay terms compound it.

Budget, separated by life

Role in the comparison
The surf-and-nomad shore (Canggu/Berawa): premium villa stock, the coworking and beach-club layer, and the dossier’s youngest resident profile.
Rent sample 1 — dated
One-bedroom villa, Padonan — IDR 21,500,000/month (40 m², monthly product, FazWaz); one-bedroom villa, Canggu — IDR 22,500,000/month (50 m²) — BaliVillaHub captures, 8 October 2026.
Rent sample 2 — dated, terms attached
One-bedroom, Subak Sari/Tibubeneng — IDR 24,000,000/month, one-month minimum; one-bedroom villa, Berawa — IDR 28,000,000/month (100 m²), two-month minimum. Minimum stays compound the effective entry price; read them as part of the rent.
Rent evidence quality
Individual dated asking samples from the monthly-villa segment only — this is a villa market, and no apartment or house segment prints here. No median, no couple budget.
Money
Rupiah throughout. Short-commitment monthly villa pricing is the segment’s business model; the annual-contract discount is negotiated, never assumed.
Health anchor (named only)
Denpasar’s ladder (RSUP Ngoerah; Siloam Hospitals Bali; Bali International Hospital) — by road, through this page’s congestion. No Canggu hospital prints.

Healthcare

Canggu’s hospitals are Denpasar’s — RSUP Ngoerah (Class A, 738 beds), Siloam Hospitals Bali (JCI per group sources), Bali International Hospital in Sanur — reached by road through some of the most congested corridors in this dossier. Map distance understates it; the transfer time is the fact, and it is worse than the other Bali places on this page.

The risk profile matches: scooter-traffic injury is Bali’s signature harm for this readership, and Canggu’s mix of surf traffic, construction vehicles and narrow lanes is where it concentrates. The medevac corridor beyond Denpasar (Singapore ~2h40–2h55 scheduled; Kuala Lumpur ~3h05–3h10) starts only after that road leg.

Climate & ground feel

Coast weather: surf seasons, a wet season that turns lanes to mud, and heat that the sea breeze only partly lifts. The ground feel is building sites and beach clubs interleaved with rice pockets — a shore under continuous construction, with the disruption that prints on the country page for rapid-development zones.

There is no walkable centre to anchor a car-free life; daily ground is scooter, driver or beach club. Households that love that rhythm thrive; households that need pavements will not find them here.

Getting around

Every run out of Canggu — airport, hospital, Denpasar paperwork — rides the same congested roads, and peak hours multiply them. Price the driver and the transfer buffer as part of the rent; the sample prices above buy the shore, not the schedule.

Ngurah Rai airport (DPS) is the gateway; the Bali levy (IDR 150,000 per tourist trip; KITAS-holder exemption registered in Love Bali at least 5 days ahead) prints on the country page with the rest of the arrival machinery.

The people side

The youngest crowd in the dossier: surfers, digital nomads, fitness and beach-club layers, short-cycle residents. English runs thick in the service economy; Bahasa Indonesia is the language of the staff, the landlords and the paperwork.

Community turnover is high by design. Long-stayers here build their own depth — clubs, schools on the island’s other side, routines — rather than inheriting a settled expatriate institution.

Watch-outs

Villa-rent escalation is the standing risk: monthly products reprice with the season, minimum stays (one to two months in the printed samples) compound the entry cost, and construction noise is endemic. Get the renewal and escalation terms in writing before the first payment.

And the fit test, printed without softening: this shore rewards the young, the surf-committed and the high-budget. A retiree household whose week is clinics and quiet will find better value — and faster care — in Denpasar and Sanur, on this same island, at a third of the printed floor.

A short story of Canggu

Canggu is the post-pandemic inflow made visible: fishing and surf villages absorbed into Bali’s remote-work economy inside a decade, inside the enforcement-and-management debate the country page describes.

The mover’s version: nobody drifts into Canggu by accident, and nobody should. It is a chosen product — surf, scene, budget to match — and this page prices it as exactly that.
