Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is the university city — and its rental portal stock sits mostly in Sleman (Depok, Babarsari, Seturan), printed as found rather than dressed as the old city. The advisory is Level 2 overall; the samples below are the cheapest dated one-bedrooms in this dossier, beside a Type A teaching hospital.

Who picks Yogyakarta

Budget long-stayers, E30 students, and culture-first households who want a real Javanese city at the dossier’s lowest printed rents: dated samples from IDR 3,350,000 a month, a Type A referral hospital in the city, and a student-city service layer that keeps daily costs low. If your ceiling is the constraint, this is where the slider says yes first.

Who should skip it

Beach-first households — the coast is a trip, not a street — and anyone who needs a JCI-branded hospital or Bali’s expatriate infrastructure. Also skip if ‘Yogyakarta’ in a listing makes you picture the old town: the stock prints in Sleman’s university districts, and the subdistrict is the fact to verify.

Budget, separated by life

Role in the comparison
The university city: the dossier’s lowest dated rents, a Type A teaching hospital in town, and portal stock that prints as Sleman geography (Depok, Babarsari, Seturan).
Rent sample 1 — dated, Sleman stock
Studio, Green Park Condominium (Babarsari) — IDR 3,350,000/month; one-bedroom, Student Castle Apartment (Seturan) — IDR 3,500,000/month (range across that block’s units to IDR 7,750,000 for two bedrooms) — travelio.com and dotproperty captures; no portal timestamp visible on the Seturan listing.
Rent sample 2 — dated, Sleman stock
Studio, Altuz Seturan — IDR 4,620,000/month (units IDR 4,400,000–4,700,000); two-bedroom, Green Park (Babarsari) — IDR 7,750,000/month, deposit 50%, utilities excluded, parking IDR 100,000/month.
Rent evidence quality
Individual dated asking samples, all from the Sleman university-district stock — printed as found, never relabelled as old-city Yogyakarta. No median, no couple budget.
Money
Rupiah throughout. Student-district pricing runs on academic-year rhythms; deposits and utility exclusions print in the listings (the 2BR sample excludes utilities).
Health anchor (named only)
RSUP Dr. Sardjito — public Type A referral/teaching hospital in the city. No JCI claim prints.

Healthcare

Yogyakarta’s anchor is in the city, and that is its structural advantage over the Bali towns: RSUP Dr. Sardjito (Sleman) is the public Type A referral and teaching hospital for the region (the University of Gadjah Mada’s teaching hospital). No JCI claim was found for it and none prints. Given the complex-case ceiling described for Indonesia generally, the transfer path runs to Jakarta, and the insurer’s pre-authorisation benefit remains the thing that pays for the extreme case.

For the standard resident this means the daily ladder — referral hospital, university specialists, pharmacy depth of a student city — is local. The extreme end still routes out, as it does from every place on this page except Jakarta itself.

Climate & ground feel

Inland Java heat with a wet season; a Kraton-centred old city (the Tugu monument in the photograph marks its axis) inside a much larger, lower-rise sprawl. The ground feel where the stock lives — Seturan, Babarsari, Depok — is student districts: kos and apartment blocks, food stalls, motorbike traffic.

Student-grade stock varies widely in finish. The dated samples are asking prices for specific units; walk the block and the building before the district’s average seduces you — there is no average on this page.

Getting around

The geography to learn is the portal’s, not the postcard’s: ‘Yogyakarta’ listings resolve to Depok, Babarsari and Seturan in Sleman regency, north of the old city. Scout by subdistrict and building, and measure your runs (hospital, campus, old town) from the actual block.

Arrivals and the All Indonesia card run through the same machinery as the country page; Yogyakarta’s airport transfer prints as part of the move, and the daily city runs on motorbike-and-app transport like the rest of Java.

The people side

A student city runs young and inexpensive: universities anchor the calendar, the food and the rental stock alike. Bahasa Indonesia is the daily language; English is thinner here than in Bali’s service economy, and daily life rewards learning it.

For families, the E30 doors on the country page are this city’s natural route; school immunisation is not an enrolment bar in the official material captured. The cultural layer — Kraton, batik, gamelan — is a lived civic identity, not a tourist overlay.

Watch-outs

The relabelling risk is the watch-out: stock marketed as ‘Yogyakarta’ that stands in Sleman changes your distances, your regency offices and your daily rhythm. Verify the subdistrict in writing, and check what the rent includes — the printed two-bedroom excludes utilities and prices parking separately.

Student-district buildings turn over with the academic year; availability and pricing at semester boundaries move faster than the portal stamps. Date every quote you rely on.

A short story of Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta grew around the Kraton — the sultan’s palace city — and the universities that made it Java’s education capital; RSUP Dr. Sardjito, the Gadjah Mada teaching hospital, is the medical face of the same history.

The mover’s version: this is the dossier’s value play with a real hospital in it — a working Javanese city whose rents print at local-student levels, as long as you read the map the way the portals draw it.
